Available High Five Training Workshops
Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) – 4 Hours
- Take PHCD 4-hour and learn the HIGH FIVE® Principles and Design Guidelines which can be implemented in programs right away. This certification program helps front line leaders gain more confidence, knowledge, and tools when leading children's programs. o Learn best practices for healthy childhood development, how to create environments where children thrive.
- Available In-Person or Virtually o $50/Learner
*By completing the 4-hour PHCD Workshop learners will then have free, on-demand access to the following 3 PHCD training programs (approx. 1-2hrs in length):
1. PHCD – Communicating with Empathy
- Review the concept and importance of: Empathetic Listening, Active Listening, and Non-Verbal Communication.
- How can demonstrating each creates an open environment of understanding that translates into better program experiences.
2. PHCD – Introduction to Conflict Resolution
- Identify and apply components of a transparent and safe environment.
- Effectively facilitate children’s conflict resolution..
- Define bullying and how to address it from a 3-level perspective.
3. PHCD – Planning Quality Programs
- Create and apply activity plans to a variety of environments.
- Demonstrate modifications and adaptations in an activity plan to improve the quality of the child’s experience.
- Understand key concepts to delivering and writing quality games and activities.
Principles of Healthy Aging (PHA) – 8 Hours
- This one-day training provides insights into the unique needs of older adults when participating in recreation or leisure activities in municipal or retirement communities.
- It provides evidence-based approaches to improve the experience of participants by implementing the HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Aging.
High Five Sport – 5 Hours
- Canada’s only quality assurance standard for organizations providing sport and recreation programs to children aged 6 to12.
- How to apply PHCD Principles into a competitive environment
- $35/Learner
Strengthening Children's Mental Health (SCMH) – 7 Hours
- The program is intended for municipal staff and supervisors offering children’s programs to be better informed about providing early intervention for children’s mental health.
- Participants will learn key concepts and factors that affect children’s mental health, including the impact of stress and environment on a child’s ability to cope.
- $40/ Learner
QUEST 1 (PHCD or PHA/Hybrid of Online & In-Person) – 8 Hours
- This training will help supervisors and managers assess, develop, measure and adopt policies and procedures. Participants will be provided with sample policies and procedures in key risk areas including hiring, emergency management, program planning, and report tracking and learn how to adopt an older adult-centered approach to service delivery and operations to minimize risk.
- $150/Learner.
QUEST 2 (PHCD or PHA/Hybrid of Online & In-Person) – 8 Hours
- This training helps supervisors improve risk management in children’s programs by learning how to assess and measure quality with the HIGH FIVE QUEST 2 Tool.
- Supervisors will use the QUEST 2 Tool, learn how to enter their data into the HIGH FIVE Database to track their organization’s progress, and identify areas for improvement.
